Alright, so I’ve been writing every day with the goal of having something that resembles a novel by the end of the year. I got 1,000 words written today; mostly background and world-building, but I’m felling pretty good about it. I’m really enjoying writing up fictional biologies for fantastical beasts.

Just spliced together a bunch of crowd sounds for the arena setting of tonight’s DnD game, I figured I’d share in case anybody else had similar games in mind.

Exercise #18: Sole Beneficiary

Sole beneficiary! What the hell was he thinking? Alice Harmon stared down at the papers in her gloved hand, the papers that officially gave her control of the late Étienne Darville’s sizable estate. More importantly, it also gave her complete control of Circuitous Applications, Earth’s leading manufacturer of electronics, robotics and biotech.
Alice caught a drip at the end of her nose before it landed on the paperwork, her favourite suit clung damply to her svelte frame. It wasn’t the most flash or stylish of outfits, but Alice liked to wear comfortable, familiar things when she was feeling shaken up. Her dark bob was frizzy because humidity from steady drizzle outside, fortunately she didn’t feel like wearing make-up today. Alice was glad for the rain though, she found it soothing, it helped her focus.
“Hang on, Étienne renamed the company to CircApp years ago. Why does this say Circuitous Applications?” she groaned rubbing her face. It had been a rough couple of days, her friend and boss had died, there was the funeral, the media and now this? It had been wearing. Alice liked order and regularity, she liked to feel in control. Well, you’ll certainly have a lot more to control now.

Writing short fiction in a completely new setting with new characters and transhumanist themes is difficult, but I’m slowly getting there. I think I’ve finally knocked out the hard part, now the rest should fall into place.

Spent today scribbling out a map and watching Porco Rosso rather than writing. It still needs work, but alright for a first draft.

Exercise #17: Madgod’s Blessings

The khajiit Kharvasha took a sniff of moon sugar, as he dug about his pack for a skooma pipe. He sat solitary upon an ice floe as the aurora glittered in the water between islands of ice.
‘The Skooma Cat has gifted me with a most blessed sight,’ Kharvasha grinned, turning his eyes upward. The moon sugar now made the world hum, but he needed the skooma pipe to make it sing.
Several hours before, as storms roiled across the Winterhold’s skies, Kharvasha hastily gathered his things and rushed out towards the sea. It was the twenty-first day of First Seed - Hogithum. A time when Cyrodiil thawed after winter and planted crops. A time when Elsweyr became a hive of activity before summer’s heat arrived. A time when Skyrim remained frozen. This was normally the day that the Dunmeri would invoke Azura, but a storm shrouded the heavens. Lightning arced back and forth across the night sky, the meaning was unmistakable.
